Karla This is a film that has a story line based on fact. Most of us seem to enjoy a bit of blood and gore from time to time, some of us more than others, but this film is based on the awful depravity of the worst serial killers in Canada. The script is based on the real life figures of Karla Hornoka and Paul Bernardo. This perverted couple was known as the 'Ken and Barbie Killers'. The name was thought up by a member of the media in Canada. Laura Prepon plays the part of Karla. This actress could be seen in 'Come Early Morning', 'Slackers' and 'That 70's Show'. The film is about the awful hold that Paul Bernardo had over Karla Hornoka. The relationship was an abusive one and Paul had the power to get Karla to join him in his fantasies that involved warped acts of sex. This film is so real and so convincing that there will be no urge to make fun of or have a laugh at anything that is portrayed. This is down to the excellent performances given by both the lead actors. The film unfolds as Karla is relating her experiences to her psychiatrist. Collins, who plays Paul, is outstanding and you will seriously hate him. Even though the film is about a killing spree that is quite abhorrent, this is not a film only about blood and guts. Do not watch this film if you want to feel good. It is an honest look at the dark side of human nature.
