'Wanted: Monty Mole' is a single-player platform game developed by Peter Harrap for the ZX Spectrum and Antony Crowther for the Commodore 64. It was published in 1984 by Gremlins Graphics. Several sequels for 'Wanted: Monty Mole' were released, like 'Monty is Innocent' (1985), 'Monty on the Run' (1986), 'Auf Wiedersehen Monty' (1987) and 'Impossamole' (1990).
'Wanted: Monty Mole' is a difficult platform game with jumping characters and interconnected rooms, which forms into a maze. Monty Mole raids a South Yorkshire pit to steal coals to keep his self warm during the winter.
Monty begins on top of the screen on a ruined bridge with squirrels throwing acorns and a steaming bucket. The player controls a 'mole' that has to navigate through a coal mine to collect pieces of coal and other various objects while avoiding different enemies and crushers. Monty Mole is eager to steal as many coals as he can. If only possible, he would hold the control of coal production. Once he gets all that he needs, he emerges inside Arthur's castle. In here, he steals some of the ballot papers and with this; he can coerce the miners to hold a strike against the government.
Players should expect to encounter enemies, like a man-eating fish, crushing machines and drills. Players will have to perform jumps with precise timing and force. Monty Mole can collect all the objects by taking a more dangerous path with an additional puzzle to make it more challenging.
'Wanted: Monty Mole' features excellent graphics and an exciting game.
